A Return to “Normal”
No masks required in the classroom. Not every meeting or event has to take place outside in the cold Kijabe wind. RVA is hosting sports games and our teams are also able to travel to other schools to compete – and fans are encouraged to come watch! Station kids are allowed in the dorms and dorm kids are allowed in our homes! Students are able to travel home for Midterm break, even outside of Kenya.
Apart from the beginning of the term, when returning boarding students were required to show negative Covid tests, everyone had to mask indoors for the first couple weeks, and most events took place in outdoor venues… things on campus have pretty much returned to a pre-Covid “normal”. For a place like RVA, where so much of life happens in community, this is a pretty big deal – and we are praising God for his blessing!
Both RVA and Moffat are now halfway through Term 1 and enjoying an extra long weekend for Midterm Break. It has been a good term so far, and we are very thankful to be here and pour ourselves into the lives of these students!
Thankfully Pray
- We are so thankful for a return to a more normal RVA life and also stand amazed at God’s provision of staff for this term.
- Grateful for a good first 6 weeks of school
- Praising God that Josh arrived to Holsby Bible College and settling in well – he even got to lead a team for worship in song during their church service last Sunday!
- Pray for rain – especially Northern Kenya. We’ve started to get a little but some areas are suffering terribly
- Pray for Spiritual Emphasis Week (SEW) next week – several days the school sets aside to focus on our relationships with the Lord. Pray for God to open blind hearts to the gospel and for those who know Jesus to go deeper in their understanding of and relationship with him.
- Pray for the Ebola situation in Uganda. Jonathan has a Ugandan student and we have several RVA families that live and work there.
- Jonathan spends his mornings in the RVA third grade class, especially to lend some guidance to a special needs child. Spending several hours at the elementary level has been a stretch for him, but he is grateful for the opportunity to serve this family and allow them to remain in their ministry for now.
- We look forward to family coming for Christmas this year – please pray it works out!
