Senior Safari
Safari: from Swahili, meaning journey. Most people think of a safari as a trip to see African animals like giraffe, elephants, zebra, and lions. But it’s more than that. The seniors at RVA have been on a journey during their years living on the edge of the Great Rift Valley. We’ve had the privilege of traveling the path with many of them, including our own son, through winding roads and ups and downs, including detours like COVID.
Another journey the class has been preparing for these last four years is Senior Safari – or Safo, as it’s come to be called. Next Monday morning they will board two busses that will take them to the Kenyan coast to spend five days together, celebrating, enjoying warmer weather (Kijabe is cold this time of year), spending unhurried time together, and beginning to say their goodbyes before heading off to the four corners of the earth. All their work of raising money through Senior Stores and other activities culminates in this final event before graduation on July 12.
Graduation then kicks off the next stage of the journey for these young men and women. Many are headed for some university or college somewhere in the world, some to Bible school, and others have chosen to take a gap year. Our Josh is heading to Sweden for one year to attend Holsby Bible School, which is a ministry of Torchbearers International, before making a decision which college to attend.
Opportunity to Help Josh
Because making money from summer jobs isn’t an option here, and because Holsby doesn’t offer scholarships or qualify to receive college savings funds, Josh has written a letter asking if you would consider supporting him. You’ll see that his plea goes beyond financial support, as he really wants to grow in his relationship with Jesus – and therefore he would really appreciate your prayers for him! We would be grateful for any help you can give him, whether a small or large contribution, sharing his letter on social media, or letting him know you’re for him and lifting him up in prayer to the One who guides the next step in his spiritual safari.

Grad Party
We will be back in Minnesota for three weeks this August and would love to see you! One opportunity is a Grad Party we are throwing for both Josh and Tiana, who graduated from Bethany Global University last May. Let us know if you can make it to Pioneer Park in Stillwater on Sunday, August 14 from 2-5 p.m.
Thankfully Pray
- Today was Josh’s last day of high school! So thankful for the Lord’s strength to help him through.
- Safety for the busses on the dangerous roads to the Coast and for good closure for the graduating class.
- Help for Jonathan in dealing with three students in his Moffat class caught cheating.
- For the ability to meet with a Kenyan pastor in Nairobi regarding theological education in Africa and our potential role in that for the future.
- Hannah & Henrik arrive in Kenya on July 10 for two weeks. Pray for a wonderful time together.
- Tiana is working at a camp in PA. Pray for strength and good health in the midst of a grueling camp schedule.
- Pray for our travel to the U.S., with a conference, visiting colleges, and time with family and friends like you!
