Gentle & Lowly
Lilli and I woke up this morning with a text from Hannah saying that she and Henrik were evacuating from their apartment in Minneapolis because the violence was getting close. They live in the 3rd precinct in Minneapolis, the hotspot of violence as a result of the death of George Floyd. Rioters were looting and setting fire to many businesses, including an apartment complex and the police station. It was reported that a gas line had been cut as well.
Oh what days we are living in the midst of! What appears to be murder by one sworn to protect, overreaction by stealing, destroying, and putting other innocent lives in danger, Coronavirus, political maneuvering, and on and on. Lord, come quickly!
In the midst of these difficult days I’ve been soaking my soul deeper into the heart of God. Author, Dane Ortlund, in his book, Gentle & Lowly, has been helping me consider several texts in Scripture that reveal not only what Jesus has done, but his very heart toward sinners and sufferers like me. Unlike us, Jesus is not trigger-happy or reactionary. He’s understanding and approachable. It’s been like a ray of sunshine for my soul after weeks of rain. Here’s a 14-day podcast to get a taste.
Prayer & Praise
- We thank God for Hannah & Henrik and their friends getting to a place of safety. Now we pray for justice and for peace that comes through Jesus Christ.
- We are so thankful for a reprieve from the rain here in Kenya to give the ground a chance to dry.
- RVA will announce their plans for next term on Monday. Pray for wisdom and grace as this will affect the response of a lot of missionary families.
- Thanks for praying for our family. We’ve had some struggles that have been exacerbated by online school – but are beginning to get better. Please keep pleading!
- We would appreciate your prayers as we prepare to come back this summer for Home Assignment. The timing is uncertain at this point – but we’ll let you know.
- Along with that, pray that someone is found to fulfill the role of staff chaplain while we are gone.
