Faith-Filled Friday
We’ve been reevaluating the way we communicate through different posts on this website and one result of that is a new name for Fun Fact Friday. Our original goal for FFF was to share some fun or interesting fact about RVA or Kenya and also incorporate a short update, some prayer requests, and a few pictures. As time went on it became a lot harder to find something we could call a “fun fact” – especially now in these days of Coronavirus!
So from now on these posts have been rebranded as Faith-Filled Friday. It will look about the same as it has in recent weeks – a short update about twice a month with praise and prayer requests and some pics. It’s a small opportunity for us to share our thanks to God for his faithful grace in the past, and to invite you to join us in anticipating his grace for the future.
With that said, here’s what’s happening in Kenya right now:
- There are 184 confirmed cases in Kenya as of this post
- Travel in and out of Nairobi has been shut down by the government for three weeks
- Must wear face-mask when in public spaces
- We are allowed to move around the RVA campus but cannot share common airspace or objects with non-family members – so no going into each other’s homes.
- We will participate in a Seder meal today with another family outside, practicing safe social distancing and using our own food
- The campus has been divided into nine housing groups to keep us somewhat connected and provide intentional care for one another under the direction of the chaplains
- It has been decided that RVA will function online for the whole of Third Term – this has been extremely hard on students, especially seniors
- Student Health will be opening two hours each week to offer medical care for the families here
- We are able to get many types of food delivered to campus through local providers and occasionally through a larger supermarket
- Josh and Sophie were part of helping to make cloth face-masks and protective clothing for Kijabe Hospital
- Still reading, playing piano and games, singing, and watching movies – last week we finished the excellent series, The Chosen. Highly recommended!
Feast of Faith (prayer & praise)
- We are thankful to be able to still move around somewhat and that there are no COVID-19 cases in our area
- Pray that we would all make the most of the time we’ve been given to grow in our relationship with the Lord
- Pray for RVA students and their families, especially seniors – most never got to say a proper goodbye and may never see each other again
- Tiana is in the process of raising support for her 16-month mission internship to Southeast Asia – pray it would be a faith-building experience and fruitful as well
Keeping you all in my prayers. What a difficult way to spend the rest of the school year, especially for seniors. My heart breaks for all of them around the world. I am glad you are all still safe and well.
Have a blessed Easter!!
Oh, how we love your updates and photos! Thank you for letting us know how things are faring for you there. We are grateful you are distanced from the larger groups of people and prayerful that the virus will miss RVA altogether. Looking forward to seeing you in July – and praying that your travel will be uneventful and go as planned. You are all so loved!
