Zanzibar
Fact
Tiana just returned from her Interim trip to Zanzibar, Tanzania. Zanzibar (from the Persian “Black Coast”) is an island off the coast of the Tanzanian mainland and is known for it’s spices and tourism. Together with the surrounding islands they are known as the “Spice Islands”. While the mainland is primarily Christian, Zanzibar is almost entirely Muslim with a small Christian minority.
The group of RVA students spent seven days exploring the island, visiting local missionaries, touring caves, a slavery museum, prison Island, a church, studying culture, and of course swimming and snorkeling. Tiana absolutely loved it! Other Interim groups from RVA went as far as Egypt and Ethiopia as well as all over Kenya.
Family
- Thank God that after traveling all over Africa on Interim, everyone arrived back safely – although a few picked up some sickness bugs
- We’ve had almost 11 inches of rain in the last month, good for the crops, bad for roads and sometimes dangerous for people (several drowned in the valley)
- There is always transition during breaks. We have about 12 staff members going on home assignment, switching to a different place of service, or leaving permanently – which means there is a good amount of transition for students as well
- Pray for our friends working among the Alagwa of Tanzania as they translate the book of Luke – unbelieving Alagwa working on the project are exposed to God’s Word regularly
- Pray for Rose, formally a Muslim, who had a dream and embraced Jesus but now receiving threats from her family. A fellow believer who had been imprisoned for his faith is encouraging her.
- Our family (minus Hannah) will be going to Madagascar over vacation, where we will meet up with Lilli’s parents and travel with them to see the fruit of three generations of ministry on the Island, visit Lilli’s birthplace and early school, and visit two RVA families
