Ubuntu
Fact
Ubuntu is a South African word that means “I am because we are”. It’s also an organization that started down in the valley below us as a partnership between a white guy from Texas and a Kenyan pastor. Their goal in coming together was to create opportunities that empowered those in the community to help themselves. The result is a clothing line, a craft line, a restaurant, a water project, and Kenyan coffee. The restaurant is a short, but very rough road trip down into the valley and provides a great opportunity for an occasional date night away from campus! You can find out more about them here or look for their products at your local Whole Foods.
Family
- We’re thanking God for a bit of rain this week but we remain very dry
- It was a successful Jr./Sr. Banquet last weekend – the theme was Polar Express
- Our tenth graders have adopted the Daasanach People of Kenya to pray for – please join us in praying for gospel laborers and for gospel fruit among these precious people
- There have been several spiritually disturbing things that have happened on campus over the last couple weeks – pray for grace and wisdom to handle them appropriately
- RVA has been working hard to address the issue of bullying on campus through educating, revising policies, and putting resources into place to allow kids to report when they’ve been bullied or see others being bullied. We must do what we can at every level to protect the children under our care, and we want to pray that the Holy Spirit would transform hearts to not only refrain from bullying, but to love one another from the heart
- Pray for Jonathan as he preaches from 1 Peter 2:11-12 – that we would know the enemy that is our sinful passions and be equipped to fight these desires that want to destroy us
