Lockdown

Fact

Because we live in a country that has experienced acts of terrorism against Foreigners (few though they be), and because we have hundreds of students under our care, we have had to be diligent about security. Almost 20 years ago a fence was installed all the way around campus with 3 gates that are staffed 24/7 by a hired security company.

At least once per term the whole campus practices going into Lockdown. At an unknown time, alarms sound (very loud alarms) and within a couple minutes everyone has scrambled to the closest secure location and locked themselves in, away from windows and doors. This tends to be an anxiety-producing experience for many students, especially when it’s a false alarm that happens at night!

There’s only so much we can do to protect ourselves on a human level. After we’ve done our due diligence, we must rely on something, Someone greater than alarms and dead bolts. Ultimately our lives are in the hands of a Sovereign and Good God. In all these years since 1906, He has been very gracious to this school.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalms 20:7)

Family
  • We’re officially on Midterm Break until next Tuesday. Pray for safe travel and that our families have a restful and fruitful time together
  • The results of Lilli’s tests turned out to be mainly normal. She has an ectopic heartbeat – a benign irregular heart rhythm due to a premature beat. She is on a low dose of beta blocker to try and get it back to normal. Thanks for praying!
  • A group of juniors and seniors organized a day to visit and minister at the local high schools – one for boys and one for girls. It’s been amazing to observe their excitement to plan, coordinate, lead, and interact with the 1000+ students at each school. Their ultimate desire is to build genuine relationships with these neighboring students and to lead joint worship services.
  • Junior/Senior Banquet is coming up next weekend, which means the Juniors and their parents are on campus during Midterm to build the set, cook the food, and make other preparations for the special event.
  • Pray for opportunities and boldness to share the gospel with those we interact with.
